A New Look at Revelation 12

Revelation chapter 12 is a most interesting study in trying to understand the events preceding the Millennium. As we briefly discussed before, there will be a literally fulfillment of the events described by John. It is difficult to determine that, because on the surface, it is clearly a symbolic message regarding the apostasy (woman flees to the wilderness) and the expulsion of Satan and his hosts (war in heaven). But, by studying and searching a little deeper, we may begin to see, that underneath these symbolic events of things that occurred in the past, are a type and a shadow of events that are still to come.

Verse 4 describes the dragon as casting the third part of the stars from heavens to the earth. As reviewed in The Seventh Seal: A Simple Test, this event is not only describing an event long past, but one that will be literally fulfilled.

Last week, I came to understand an even more astonishing prophecy that has not yet been fulfilled. John states in verse 10: And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night. The key phrase in that verse is “the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.” If you recall the story of Job, that afflicted soul, who’s troubles began with a petition of Satan to God. Satan accused Job. His job ever since he was cast to the earth was to accuse all men and women before the God in Heaven. But, according to John, at some point, that will stop. And, his access to heaven will be totally cut off, or in other words, he will literally be cast out again. He will be cast out, not from residence in Heaven, but from access to God at all.

Then we learn, that Satan is filled with great wrath, and he knows that he only has a short time left. So, he begins the most severe persecution that the church has ever received. This is described in Mark 13:19, For in those days shall be affliction, such as was not from the beginning of the creation which God created unto this time, neither shall be.

These are the things that I feel are necessary to share tonight. But, don’t forget that there are great rewards ahead if we endure to the end:
Mark 13:26-27
26 And then shall they see the Son of man coming in the clouds with great power and glory.

27 And then shall he send his angels, and shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from the uttermost part of the earth to the uttermost part of heaven.
