Elder Robert D Hales and the Scriptural Marker in the Book of Revelation

In October 2013, Elder Robert D Hales spoke in the first session on Saturday.  He declared “The adversary has been loosed upon the earth.”

Prior to that, in October 2006, Elder Hales stated, “the true and faithful will be able to withstand the fiery darts of the adversary when he is loosed upon this earth.”  He clearly defined that on a future date, Satan would be allowed to do something that he was prevented from doing at that time. Below are the relevant passages.

General Conference: Strengthening Faith and Testimony Oct 2013
Elder Robert D. Hales

In recent decades the Church has largely been spared the terrible misunderstandings and persecutions experienced by the early Saints. It will not always be so. The world is moving away from the Lord faster and farther than ever before. The adversary has been loosed upon the earth. We watch, hear, read, study, and share the words of prophets to be forewarned and protected. For example, “The Family: A Proclamation to the World” was given long before we experienced the challenges now facing the family. “The Living Christ: The Testimony of the Apostles” was prepared in advance of when we will need it most.

Holy Scriptures: The Power of God unto Our Salvation Oct 2006
Elder Robert D. Hales

We are living in the latter days, brothers and sisters, in the fulness of times. We must remember that we have control over who we are no matter how difficult the world becomes. Like those in 1 Nephi, the true and faithful will be able to withstand the fiery darts of the adversary when he is loosed upon this earth. 22 Despite all the turmoil in the world, when the Savior comes to His temple, as He did in the Book of Mormon, those who are true and faithful will be there. May we be among them, I so pray, in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.

Joseph Smith said that the book of Revelation was all in the future. I believe Elder Scott is talking about Revelation 12:

9 And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.
10 And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.
11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.
12 Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time.

We know Christ is our advocate with the Father. My understanding is that Satan has been before God accusing the people of the world, throughout the history of mankind. John tells us that at some point in time this stops, “the accuser of our brethren is cast down.” Further evidence is in John’s statement, “he knoweth that he hath but a short time.”

Elder Scott is telling us that these verses have been fulfilled. What’s next? Continuing in Revelation 12.

13 And when the dragon saw that he was cast unto the earth, he persecuted the woman which brought forth the man child.
14 And to the woman were given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness, into her place, where she is nourished for a time, and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent.
15 And the serpent cast out of his mouth water as a flood after the woman, that he might cause her to be carried away of the flood.
16 And the earth helped the woman, and the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed up the flood which the dragon cast out of his mouth.
17 And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.
