There was a lot of contention and crying “lo here” and “lo there” in the early part of the 18th Century regarding which religion to join. One solemn 14 year old boy was so disturbed by the upset of the people, and the different interpretations of the scripture, that he did as he read in the book of James. For, he surely felt that if anyone “lacked wisdom” he did, and that God “would not upbraid” but perhaps answer his question as to which to join. He entered that grove to pray. Heavenly Father and Jesus appeared to Joseph Smith to answer his prayer as to which church to join. The answer came, join none of them, for they have all gone astray.
We are also in great contention, with “lo here” and “lo there” at every hand. The issue upsetting the nation today is not religion, it is the election of a President. The choice for a conservative citizen is based on how well that person upholds conservative or Constitutional values. Like Joseph Smith’s day there seems to be a choice that must be made, but the people among whom we must choose have such different interpretations of how to govern a country, which should be guided by the Constitution, as to make it impossible for us to make a selection based on our own knowledge. Perhaps, the answer for us, is like Joseph, “join none of them, for they have all gone astray.”
For me, that is my answer. I know we will not have to wait for 10 more years, like Joseph, in order to have the truth of which we may partake. So, for now, I am waiting. Our choices are NOT limited to the box that government officials offer us.
I have outlined what I feel are the key three reasons which each of the Republican candidates has deviated from the Constitution or abiding by the inalienable rights which we receive from God. One of the most important is the right to life, and second the right to liberty. Ted Cruz, John Kasich and Donald Trump did not stand for a man who was gunned down, on a lonely Oregon highway, just two months ago. That was a pivotal point for our nation. It was extremely important to determine the character of a person.
When the Nazis came for the communists,
I remained silent;
I was not a communist.
When they locked up the social democrats,
I remained silent;
I was not a social democrat.
When they came for the trade unionists,
I did not speak out;
I was not a trade unionist.
When they came for the Jews,
I remained silent;
I wasn’t a Jew.
When they came for me,
there was no one left to speak out.
Friends, we know from prophecy that they are coming for those who follow Jesus Christ (upon my house it shall begin). In January, they came for the Oregon protesters. We should not be silent but speak out. The character of our candidates matters, if they did not speak out against such an appalling thing as the cold blooded murder of one man, and the arrest of many men (who are guaranteed the right to petition government in the First Amendment), then what makes you think any of those cowards will stand for the Saints, when the persecution comes. They won’t. They are either cowards, or in league with the enemy.
They Didn’t Speak Out
There is no bigger issue than addressing a government, at whatever level, that is willing to murder its citizens. Life rights are inalienable, and are a gift from God.
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.–That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men…
When our national and state governments violate the right to life and liberty, which is their primary purpose, they have violated the sacred contract between the people and the governments. Should they not be held to account? Should we not expect that someone who wants to be the lead of our national government to address the fact that our current government has violated rights to life and liberty of those who tried to petition the government for redress in Oregon, right in the middle of their campaigns?!
There is no issue looming larger on our horizon than a government who is willing to kill and imprison those who oppose their agenda.
